In my previous post, I discussed about the pros and cons of traveling with baby. If you’ve decided that taking your baby is best for both of you, then you might need some safety tips to ensure that your trip will be enjoyable and hassle-free.

Safety Tips When Traveling with Baby

Whether you choose to travel by car, by sea or by air, your primary concern is baby’s safety. Here are some tips to keep baby safe as you get the rest and recreation you deserve.

Do your research

Traveling with baby may not be comfortable, but it can definitely be a lot easier if you know where to go, especially when you’re in unfamiliar territory. As the old saying goes, forewarned is forearmed. So before you head on to your destination, be it locally or abroad, do your research on local drugstores, clinics or hospitals, retail stores, and so on. So just in case you need emergency supplies or baby care, you’ll know where to go.

Pack wisely

I try to bring a single, medium-sized suitcase with wheels so I can carry baby safely. How can I do it? I just take a little of the disposables – nappies, cotton, baby wipes, etc. to save up space in my bag.I just buy from stores in the area I’m heading to. And instead of carrying a load of toys with me, I simply put his Rainbow Toy Rattle in my pocket and take it out whenever he starts looking bored. I instantly capture his attention each time I shake it! He simply loves the vibrant colors and the soft sound that the discs make.

Consider your baby’s biological clock

Yes, you have to think of your baby’s inner clock before you book for a flight or schedule a road trip. If he sleeps more at night, try to leave in the morning to ensure that he has had enough sleep and vice versa. This way, you can avoid moody or cranky behavior due to his lack of sleep. You can also wrap baby in a swaddle to control startle reflex, thus allowing your little one to sleep for as long as his body needs.

Don’t forget the essentials

Put baby’s vitamins and medicines for fever, rashes, etc. in a small Ziploc bag and tuck it in the most accessible area of your handbag. So, if baby suddenly develops a condition, you’ll have first aid treatment at hand.

Choose the right baby car seat

If it’s a road trip that you’re planning, it is best that you purchase one of the top baby car seats. How would you know which one is the best and safest for your little one? Make sure that the car seat you are considering meets the Child Restraint Guidelines set by the Neuroscience Research Australia (NeuRA) and Kidsafe. You can find those guidelines here.

Traveling with baby can be safe and enjoyable. Just keep the tips above in mind and your journey will be fun and hassle-free.
